Parent Visa
Parent Visa is designed by Australian government to help Australian permanent resident to sponsor their oversea parents to obtain Australian residence. In the 2020-2021 fiscal year, the DHA allocated 45,000 quotas for parent visa applicants, a slight reduction from the previous fiscal year. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, Australian government announced that from 24 March 2021, during the period of the epidemic, eligible parent visa applicants (Subclass 103/143/173) will be given concession of “no need to leave Australia to be granted parent visa".
It can be divided into 3 categories:
Contributory parent Visa (4 Categories)
I. Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143)
Contributory Parent Visa is a type of parent visa for Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to sponsor their parents to settle in Australia. This visa is a one-step permanent residence visa and the waiting period is relatively short. It requires a one-time payment of all contributions and also has certain requirements for the income of children in Australia. 143 visa holders can apply for an Australian Medical Card to enjoy free public medical service in Australia. · This type of visa is applicable to:Applicants who have certain financial resources and want to quickly obtain Australian residence. · Visa Cost:- Main applicant: AU$4,155
- Secondary applicant: AU$1,400
- Contribution fee: AU$43,600 /person (paid later)
- Bank Guarantee (10 years): AU$10,000 for one person, AU$14,000 for 2 persons
II. Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 864)
Contributory Aged Parent Visa is a parent visa type for Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to sponsor their elderly parents to settle in Australia. This visa is a one-step permanent residence visa and the waiting period is relatively short. It requires a one-time payment of all contributions fee and also has certain requirements for the income of children in Australia. 864 visa allows applicants to submit application in Australia, by holding a bridging visa in Australia and wait for the visa outcome onshore. After the applicant is approved, applicant can apply for Medical Card to enjoy free public medical services in Australia. · This type of visa is applicable to:Applicants who have certain financial resources and want to quickly obtain Australian residence. · Visa Cost:- Main applicant: AU$4,155
- Secondary applicant: AU$1,400

III. Contributory Parent (temporary) Visa (Subclass 173)
Both of Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa and 143 Contributory Parent Visa belongs to contributory parent visa category, but the difference is 143 requires a one-time payment of all contributory fee, while 173 visa allows applicant to pay contributory fee in two stages. Applicant can apply for permanent residence visa after paying the remaining contributory fee within two years once obtained 173 Visa. Applicants can directly enjoy the Australian Medical benefit after obtaining a permanent residence visa. Parents over 60 years of age can apply for senior card, but other social payment or subsidies has 2-years waiting period, and age pension payment has 10-years waiting period. · This type of visa is applicable to:Applicants who want to obtain permanent residence quickly and do not want to pay whole contributory fee at once. · Visa Cost:- Main applicant: AU$4,155

IV. Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 884)
Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa is a type of parent visa for Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to sponsor their elderly parents to settle in Australia. The is a two-step visa, valid for 2 years. Applicants can pay whole amount of contributions fee in two instalments; applicant can apply for permanent residence visa after paying the second instalment fee within 2 years period. After obtained permanent residence visa, applicant is eligible for enrolling Australian Medicare services. Parents over 60 years old can apply for senior card, but other social payment or subsidies has 2-years waiting period, and age pension payment has 10-years waiting period. 864 visa allows applicants to submit in Australia, and wait for outcome by holding a bridging visa in Australia. After the applicant is approved, applicant can enroll for Australian Medical system to enjoy free public medical services in Australia. · This type of visa is applicable to:Senior applicants who want to obtain permanent residence quickly and do not want to pay too much money at once. · Visa Cost:- Main applicant: AU$4,155

Parent Visa (2 Categories)
I. Parent Visa (Subclass 103)
Parent visa (subclass 103) is a one-step permanent resident visa ( PR ) . Applicants can choose to submit their visa application overseas or in Australia, but the applicant must be overseas when the visa is granted (except for government exemptions). After parents have 103 Visa, they are eligible to apply for Medicare to enjoy free public medical service in Australia. However, there is a waiting time of 10 years to get the pension. This visa does not need applicant to pay contribution fees to government, waiting in the queue for processing. If applicant wants to speed up processing time while waiting in the queue, they can obtain permanent residence faster through transfer to contributory parent visa (Subclass 143), and the previous waiting period can be considered in the processing of the application. · This type of visa is applicable to:- Applicants who are not in a hurry to obtain Australian residence in a short time
- Applicants who do not want to pay high contribution fees
II. Aged Parent visa (Subclass 804)
Aged Parent visa (subclass 804) is a one-step permanent resident visa (PR), which is a visa category set by Australian government for senior parents over 65 years of age. Applicants need to be in Australia when submitting visa application and visa granted. Applicants are eligible to apply for Medicare to enjoy free public medical service in Australia after obtaining 103 Visa. However, there is waiting time of 10 years to get the pension. This visa does not need applicant to pay contribution fee to Australian government, waiting in the queue to be processed. If applicants want to speed up process time while in the queue, they can obtain permanent residence faster through transferring to aged contributory parent visa (Subclass 864), and the previous waiting period can be considered in the processing of the application. · This type of visa is applicable to: 1.
