Other Family Reunion Visa

Other family member reunion visas are the immigrant visa categories set up by the Australian government for Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand Citizen's overseas relatives. There are different visa categories are set for different relatives.
In the 2020-2021 fiscal year, the quota for reunion visas for other family members is only 500. Therefore, the application processing time for reunion visas for other family members is longer than that for immediate family members.

Main visa categories

  • I. Aged Dependent Relative Visa (Subclass 114/838)

    This visa is an immigration pathway designed by Australian government to help elderly orphans who rely on relatives with Australian permanent residence to migrate to Australia. This visa is a one-step immigration method to obtain permanent residency status. Applicants can include (step) children under the age of 18 as dependent applicants in the application. Applicants can directly enjoy the Australian Medicare services after obtaining a permanent residence visa . Visa holders over 60 years old can apply for senior card, but other social payment or subsidies has 2-years waiting period, and age pension payment has 10-years waiting period. · This type of visa is applicable to:Over 65 years old single grandfather/mother, uncle, or aunt of Australian citizens/permanent residents/eligible New Zealand citizens who is overseas. · Regarding the submission method:  Depending on whether the applicant is in Australia or not, there can be two submission methods:
    • Submit 838 visa application in Australia , you can wait for visa outcome in Australia by holding a bridging visa, and you are eligible to enroll in temporary Medicare system;        
    • Submit 114 visa application outside Australia, if applicants want to visit Australia while waiting for outcome, then need to apply for visitor visa and comply with the visa conditions.        
    Note: Specific submission method will be determined in accordance with the applicant's actual permanent residence and visa conditions.  · Visa Cost:
    • Main applicant: AU$4,350
    • Secondary applicant: AU$2,175
    • Second instalment: AU$2,065/person (pay later)
    • Bank Guarantee (4 years): AU$5,000 for the main applicant, AU$2,000 for the secondary applicant.
    * The above fees are adjusted annually, and the latest cost please check on official website. · Estimated processing time:  50 years, depending on the applicant's situation and the documents provided to determine the processing speed.
  • II. Remaining Relative Visa (Subclass 115/835)

    This visa is designed by Australian government to help overseas last relative of the family who relying on his/her close relatives who is Australian resident to immigrate to Australia and reunion with family in Australia. This is a one-step visa to obtain permanent residency status in Australia. Applicants can directly enjoy the Australia Medicare benefit after obtaining a permanent residency visa. Visa holders over 60 years old can apply for senior card, but other social payment or subsidies has 2-years waiting period, and age pension payment has 10-years waiting period. · This type of visa is applicable to:The last family member of an Australian citizen/permanent resident/ eligible New Zealand citizen who does not have Australian permanent residence. It can be:
    • (Step) Siblings;
    • (Step) children who are 18 years of age or older and do not depend on sponsor;
    • (Step) children under the age of 18 whose custody rights are not under the name of the sponsor.
      · Regarding the submission method: Remaining relative visa can be submitted in two ways according to whether the applicant is in Australia or not:
    • Submit 835 visa application in Australia, you can wait for outcome in Australia by holding a bridging visa, and you can enroll in temporary Medicare services;        
    • Submit 115 visa application outside Australia, if you want to visit Australia while waiting for approval, you need to apply for visitor visa and comply with the visa conditions.        
    Note: Specific submission method will be determined in accordance with the applicant's actual permanent residence and visa conditions. · Visa Cost:
    • Main applicant: AU$4,350
    • Secondary applicant: AU$2,175

  • III. Carer Visa (Subclass 116/836)

    Carer Visa (Subclass 116/836) is a one-step permanent residence visa for applicant needs to take care of his/her close relative who is Australian resident for long-term. Applicants can directly enroll in Australian Medicare system after obtain permanent residence visa. Visa holders over 60 years old can apply for senior card, but other social payment or subsidies has 2-years waiting period, age pension payment has 10-years waiting period. · This type of visa is applicable to:close relatives of Australian citizens/permanent residents/New Zealand citizens, including:
    • (Step) parents
    • (Step)child
    • (Step) siblings
    • (Step) grandparents
    • Uncle/aunt
    • Grandson/Granddaughter
    • Nephew/niece
      · Regarding the submission method: Depending on whether the applicant is in Australia or not, there are two ways to submit the application:
    • Submit 836 visa application in Australia, you can wait for the visa outcome in Australia by holding a bridging visa, and you can enroll in temporary Medicare system;        
    • Submit 116 visa application outside Australia, if you want to visit Australia while waiting for the approval, you need to apply for visitor visa and comply with the visa conditions.

    • Main applicant: AU$1,795
    • Secondary applicant: AU$900
    • Second instalment: AU$$2,065 /person (pay later)
