Investor Stream (Subclass 188B)
This visa is one of the four major categories of Australia's Business Innovation Stream 188 Series. 188B is a visa for investors with successful investment experience in real estate, stocks, corporate equity, gold, and silver bullion.
Since 1st July 2021, Applicants will invest AU1.25 million in a designated investment area for 4 years. The pathway to Australia's permanent residency for 188B is an 888B permanent residence (PR) visa.

Eligibility
- Own and Manage Business or Eligible Investments
For at least 1 of the 5 fiscal years immediately before DHA invite you to apply, have directly managed one of the following:
- a qualifying business in which you, your partner or you and your partner combined had at least 10% ownership interest, or
- an eligible investment:
- of at least AU$2,500,000 owned by you, your partner, or you and your partner combined, if invited on or after 1 July 2021.
- of at least AU$1,500,000 owned by you, your partner, or you and your partner combined, if invited before 1 July 2021.
- Business and Personal Assets
For the 2 fiscal years immediately before DHA invite you to apply, you, your partner, or you and your partner together, have business and personal assets with a net value of at least:
- AU$2,500,000 if you were invited to apply on or after 1 July 2021
- AU$2,250,000 if you were invited to apply before 1 July 2021
These assets must have been lawfully acquired and be available for transfer to Australia within 2 years of the visa being granted.
- Have the right experience
- have at least 3 years experience managing one or more qualifying businesses or eligible investments
- have a successful record of eligible invesment or qualifying business activity
- have demonstrated a high level of management skill in relation to the eligible investment or qualifying business activity.
- EOI scores at least 65 on the points test
- Invest in Australia
- If invited to apply for the visa on or after 1 July 2021 - at least AU$2,500,000
It must be invested in the following proportions:
- At least AU$500,000 (20%) - in venture capital and growth private equity funds, which invest in start-ups and small private companies
- At least AU$750,000 (30%) - in approved managed funds. The managed funds must invest in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange
- At least AU$1,250,000 (50%) - in approved managed funds. The managed funds must invest in a 'balancing investment'
Remarks:
- The managed funds can invest in a range of assets, including companies listed on the Australian stock exchange, Australian corporate bonds or notes, annuities and commercial real estate;
- The government prohibit direct investment in residential real estate;
- The investor must not use investments as security or collateral for a loan
- The investor must make a complying significant investment on or after the time of application for the visa.
- If invited to apply before 1 July 2021 - at least AU$1,500,000 in your nominating State or Territory
