Temporary Graduates Visa (subclass 485)
This visa is a temporary visa that allows graduates to live, study and work in Australia after finish their study in Australia. 485 visa is divided into three categories, Graduate Work Stream (GW), Post-Study Work Stream (PSW) and Second Post-Study Work Stream (SPSW). Visa applicant can usually stay up to 1.5 years (GW category), 2 - 4 years (PSW category), 1 - 2 years (SPSW category). Remote areas PSW graduates could renew their 485 visa once after their first 485 expires. Hong Kong passport holders may stay for 5 years.
Currently, Australia has closed the border due to COVID-19, and the Temporary Graduates Visa is not on the list of allowed entry. However, Australia values international students very much and hopes that through a certain period of training, talents can be retained in Australia. Therefore, the government introduced some preferential policies for 485 visas during the epidemic, for example:
1. Allowed to apply for a 485 visa offshore;
2. The dependent applicant of the 485 visa is allowed to apply for the 485 visa as the main applicant of the second application.
Eligibilities
- Under 50 years of age
- Hold an eligible visa
- Have held a student visa in the last 6 months to enroll into a registered CRICOS course
- Meet the 2-academic year of Australian study requirement
- Meet IELTS overall score of 6
- Have adequate health insurance
- Meet health requirement
- Meet character requirement
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused
